Wonder Valley's Museum |
| |
|
|
Three centuries of history:
(1, above) A large cache of Wonder Valley memorabilia was located by the Ranch Resort’s current owner, Stan Oken, that included this wonderful oversized book display; (2, below) Oken enjoys showing off the museum that he created to guests; (3) The museum is full of vintage historical photographs like this one from the 1950s showing Becky Webb, a previous owner of the Wonder Valley Ranch, with her son Lonny Webb; (4) The extensive rock collection of the property’s original owner, George Weston Pierson is a highlight of the museum tour. |

We feel that the history of Wonder Valley is significant and important to the development of the surrounding area and it needed to be preserved. So we have created a museum in our Dalton Lodge that shows photos, artifacts, and documents that trace the history of the life of the Native Americans and the homesteaders, the land purchase for a ranch and eventually the development of the guest ranch as it is seen today.
A few of the artifacts to be seen are Native American blankets, rock specimens identified by a geologist, earthenware, horse tack, posters, vintage ads and of course many photos from as early as 1849.
After guests tour the museum, a short walk or horse back ride will take them to the site of the original grinding stones where the Native Americans spent many hours creekside preparing the grains available to them.
It’s a unique look at the past that won’t be found anywhere but Wonder Valley Ranch Resort. |
